On the bright side, the Thinking Atheist and old Daizenshuu EX podcast episodes should last me a while. 'Cause after I'm through with that, walking is going to be torturous. I might look for audio books after I run out of podcast episodes, because music doesn't do enough for me. I love it to death, but it's not an active listening experience for me unless I'm listening to something new.
On an unrelated note, I envy people who eat whatever the hell they want and don't gain any weight. I feel like even though I'm consciously trying to eat healthier and less than normal, I'm still gaining weight unless I exercise. I guess part of it is that I sit at home all day long unless I need or want to be somewhere else. So, even when I lose all this weight, I'll still need to go walking to maintain the weight (even though I'll probably be walking way less than what I'm doing now for weight loss).
You can probably tell from the lack of updates that I "fell off" the exercise thing. I stopped for a week or so and gained like 2-3 lbs. Going for walks isn't hard at all, it's just motivating yourself to do them. I haven't had that issue this week, though, so to make up for the weight gain, I'm walking on every weekday this week. The weekend will be my days of rest, and next week I'll probably continue with this. I've walked 6.8 miles so far for the week, and today is only Tuesday. So I'll probably walk more than twice that by Friday and observe my weight then. Actually, I said I'd probably continue next week, but my dad is going to be home that week, so I can't really go walking those days. Technically, I could, but I like walking with headphones on and a good podcast playing. I don't want him bitching to me about how I'm going to get hit by a car or something. That's why I only walk on weekdays, when he has work. I'm still excited for next week, though, because I'll be going to a three-day anime convention known as Mizucon. Friday to Sunday, and I'll continue my exercise on Monday, with my dad returning back to work.

Walked around 6 miles today in roughly 2 hrs 50 mins. You have no idea how exhausted I am. It hurts, but I guess losing weight is rarely a walk in the park (pardon the pun). Part of the problem is that Miami is hotter than freaking hell, and while I obviously want to take walks at earlier hours, I'm just not waking up early enough to go about doing that. Right now I'm transitioning into waking up at around 8 AM for an upcoming anime convention. While an evening stroll would seem convenient, that would mean explaining myself to everyone in the house as to my whereabouts, and they'll ask questions and all this bullcrap. Frankly, the fewer people that I have to explain myself to, the better.
Weighed in today at 230.6 lbs today, which means I lost 0.4 lbs over the course of a week. That's not particularly good, but I'm pleased just to know that I'm actually losing weight (or so it seems). That said, 0.4 lbs is nothing to be proud of. So, in the following weeks, I'll probably try to walk 15 or more miles and see how that works out. I want to be losing at least 1 lb a week.
Friday, July 20, 2012
I'll probably wait until at least Thursday or Friday before weighing myself again. Doing it too often will just make me go crazy, so I want to leave a big enough gap in time so that I know for sure whether or not I'm losing or gaining weight. I'm not even sure how far I'm walking. I'll put on a podcast around 90-minutes or so, and time it so that I'm walking back home by the second half of it, however far that takes me. The past few days, I've been trying to pick up my walking pace, but I just feel like I'm such a slow walker. I guess that has to do with me being fat. Getting tired quickly and all that. I'll experiment until I find something that works, but hopefully what I'm doing now is all right. That all depends on how much calories I'm taking in, and I'm honestly not sure how much I'm taking in. Calorie counting isn't as easy as you'd think, especially if I'm not the one cooking the food. I'll just let the scale do the talking, for better or for worse. It's also interesting to see my weight after not being able to weigh myself for a few years. There wasn't a scale in the house, and I never felt the need to buy one until now. My weight is basically what I thought it'd be. Maybe if I can actually lose the weight, then I can cosplay as slim anime characters at cons. The main characters are almost always really skinny, so as a fat guy, it's hard picking characters to dress up as. Sure, I could always be the elephant in the room (haw) by being fat Shinichi Kudo or Son Goku, but I just wouldn't feel comfortable doing that.
I don't even care if no one reads my shit. Sometimes it's nice being able to vent without worrying about what people think of my ramblings. I'm in the mood for rambling, so I thought I'd go into my obesity. Thankfully, I'm not so fat that I can't exercise. Because just eating healthy takes forever and sucks. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of healthy foods that taste good, but eating that way gets tiring. My goal is to find a method of burning 1-2 lbs a week, so that by next year I can be at my goal weight. If I gotta go running for miles every week, I'll do it. I never really gave a shit about being called a nerd or neckbeard, but I can't stand it when people call me fat. I've pretty much been fat my entire life, and I think it's about time to do something for myself. I see pictures of fat guys I went to high school with and how they got skinny, and it makes me real self-conscience. But I'm not letting those feelings get me depressed, instead they've motivated me to make something work. I hope I don't have to bust my balls to lose weight, but whatever it takes, man. I probably would have had a girlfriend by now if I wasn't such a fatass. Funnily enough, even though I'm fat, I don't think I'm ugly. I have low self-confidence, yeah, because nearly everyone likes to make fun of fat people, but I feel like I'd look good if I just lost some weight. So we'll see what comes of this.
If anyone actually reads this, then I'll take this time to apologize for the lack of activity. I couldn't think of anything worth blogging about, so I stopped using this place for a couple of months. I currently weigh 231 lbs and my height is about 5'5". I want to lose around 100 lbs so that I can be at a normal weight. I've started going on walks three times a week, but a good friend of mine informed me of a painful truth. Walking doesn't burn a whole lot of calories, so I may not actually be losing anything. In a week, I'll hop back onto the scale to see how much I weigh. If I weigh more than I do this week, then clearly I'll need to make some changes. See you in a week.

So, I'm importing a couple of Detective Conan soundtracks from Japan. Because I couldn't find good quality rips of them anywhere on the Internet. One has already shipped, and I'll probably have it around mid-May. The other will ship soon. I'll probably upload the decent quality tracks onto YouTube. Maybe do an unboxing if my family can leave me alone for long enough to do one (or two).

What-if FUNimation used oddly literal attack names in DBZ.
Piccolo: Let's see you stop this one!
Raditz: How foolish! I underestimated these guys! Power level thirteen hundred and thirty! I can't block that!
Piccolo: It's all yours! Piercing Light Kill Gun!
Alternate version:
Piccolo: Let's see you stop this one!
Raditz: How foolish! I underestimated these guys! Power level thirteen hundred and thirty! I can't block that!
Piccolo: It's all yours! Fiend-Pierce Light Kill Gun!
But, in all seriousness, if FUNi is going to stick with English attack names, they should at least translate them out better. They're even less accurate than the YYH attacks. Obviously what I did above was exaggerated for comedic effect. Makankousappou could be something like "Light of Death Cannon", Kikouhou "Ki / Spirit Cannon" (side-note: oddly enough, "Spirit Gun" would also be a faithful translation of the attack), etc. I guess Destructo Disk works for Kienzan, because the literal translation is something like "Circular Spirit / Ki Decapitation". These are the types of things FUNi is afraid to change for whatever reason. Kami-sama will always be Kami (not God), and Kaio-sama will always be King Kai (not Lord Kaio or something of the like).

I don't think I've ever seen a remotely decent anime/manga with a female main character. It's not even because they're romance-y, because a lot of my favorite series have romance. Either these types of series are romance with very poor writing (or just too much from a girl's point of view for a guy to enjoy), or it's too Japanese (Lucky Star), or it's a shitty comedy (Azumanga Daioh), or a combination of those.
I read somewhere that men are far more likely to reach climax during sex than women. Coincidence? I think not. While you're laying there, eating shit, the guy doesn't know what to do. Especially if you're faking a fucking orgasm. For all he knows, he's doing a good job. While you're not enjoying the sex. Because you don't want to be involved.
While on the subject of women, why the hell are so many of them passive in bed? Don't want to give your partner an idea of what you like? Or is it because you fear making a mistake so much that you'd rather place the burden on the guy? Men have to be good at sex, but women just have to be there. They don't even need a pulse.

Did a spring cleaning of sorts on my YouTube channel. Deleted over 60 videos. All those fandubs were just cluttering up my channel. No one wants to see that shit, not even me. I don't have a use for them anymore either, since they're old, and outdated. They don't represent my talent anymore. Also, if I take down my auditions, chances are I'll stop getting scouted for shitty projects. I don't have the time to record period, though, so it's better if I just don't have to put people through the hassle of scouting me when I can't be of any help to them. I'll make an update video on the weekend talking about the direction of my channel.

Fasting sure is difficult. I'm tired of people (namely my family) talking shit about my weight (it's funnier when you consider both my parents are fat fucks). So I'm going to try and eat as little as possible. Maybe a fruit or salad every so often. I've only been awake for a few hours now, and I feel pretty bad. I wonder how long I can even keep this going. Takes some serious willpower. But I'm going to make them eat their words.
So, Netflix currently has season 1 of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic on instant stream. I don't know how I feel about this. It's good for those who like the show, but I couldn't even make it to the end of episode 2. And I seriously doubt the quality improves enough after episode 2 for me to bronify. It's good for a recent kid's show, but kid's shows have also been almost entirely awful since around 2004 (so that's not saying much).

Man, the past few weeks were miserable. It still feels odd to me not having some huge homework assignment looming over me; weighing heavily on my conscience. I guess I can finally relax for now, or at least to the best of my ability, knowing I may or may not pass this English class despite putting forth genuine effort.

Intelligence test:
Have you ever watched Dragon Ball Z? Are you aware that the English dubs are vastly different from the Japanese version(s)? Do you prefer the heavily altered dub(s)?
If you said yes to all of the following, you are indeed a retard. If you don't necessarily prefer DBZ in English, but you think it's watchable, then you're only slightly retarded.

As for the plot-hole, it's explained that Korra's Air-bending teacher has assigned a skilled squad of men to keep watch on her so that she remains out of trouble. Yet after that's explained, they NEVER show up again. She even wanders around all by herself and her teacher is wondering where the hell she is. Really? Did the writers just forget about these guys?
So, I'm watching Legend of Korra, and I was really enjoying it. But it suffers from the same problem as the previous series; when the script tries to be funny, the quality of the writing drops. It's only the first episode as well, and I've already noticed a plot-hole. Maybe it'll get better later on.

Also, soon I'll have access to a new phone which doesn't suck total ass (like the one I have now does). So, when I can try it out, I'll go for a walk and see how good/bad the audio quality is. If it's good enough, then I'll regularly go for walks and record rants that way. I can also now get pics and video of voice actors when I go to cons. I'm pretty excited for this. Even if the mic picks up too much wind outside, I'll probably be able to record myself in the house if my family is sleeping.
Well, that wasn't so bad. I entered the class dreading the grade and feedback I'd get for my outline, only to find out we'd be getting a Greek and Latin root quiz. But it turns out the guys who photocopied the quiz did it on the wrong material. So that's been rescheduled. The professor also admitted that she let her previous class go early so that they could get more time into their research paper. Luckily, she decided to do the same for us tonight.
We talked about this week's roots, took one of those teacher evaluation thingies, then I had to stay a little while longer to get feedback on the outline. It turns out that the content in it was good, but I made some frequent errors in verb tenses and in the general layout of the outline. It was approved, but I still need to make corrections to it and turn it in as part of the packet we have to give her with the research paper. I got a C on it due to it being late, but she said I'd have gotten an A if it were turned in on time. It's a real bummer, and I'm not proud of my month-long procrastination, but at this point, I'm more concerned with passing the class.

Technically, neither is wrong. Kinda like "Mexico." Spanish speakers will pronounce the 'x' as an 'h', but English speakers will pronounce it as it looks. Of course, The English/American pronunciation isn't any less right than the Spanish way. But in the case of "Saiyan," pronouncing it as "Sigh-yin" makes you look like a giant tool.
I do like the "I am the Super Saiyan! Son Goku!" line now since I know Schemmel is the reason it exists. When you realize he was able to get something like that into the dub, it's a fairly decent sign that they don't want to completely rape DBZ anymore. But, if you didn't know that, you'd just think someone like Chris Sabat threw it in for no reason, despite not doing it for any other part. That's why the line made me face-palm at first.
"But yeah, Sean Schemmel chose to say Son Goku a few times (not on the script) and they used that one.
I think that the fans that would complain about it should go f*** themselves."
Look at me, I like inconsistent scripts! They should also refer to Piccolo as Demon King Piccolo in one part and then never do it again, then refer to Tien by Tenshinhan only once, etc. You are a fucking moron.

It's bad enough that Jeice is consistently given an accent differing from every other character (and an accent which the actor does not even HAVE), but what's worse is when it affects the script. They're shitting all over the character because they think it's funny. The Japanese voice doesn't even have any speech abnormalities, so it's not even like they're adapting some sort of speech pattern from the original version.
If they fuck this dub up, though, they're pretty much dead to me. They're the most inconsistent dubbing company I've ever seen. They'll release a masterpiece like Death Note and then half-ass the Gundam dubs. With Bandai Entertainment to not license any new animes in the U.S., I hope Ocean never gets to ruin another Gundam dub again. Fuckers.
However, if this dub is not released on DVD and Blu-ray, then it does not deserve to exist. I'm tired of TV-only Ocean crap. I understand that FUNi might be part of the reason that the Ocean dubs aren't released, but if that's the case, why are they bothering to dub Kai in the first place when they know it can't be released? At least release it in Canada and Europe.
DBZ Kai: Ocean-style? I'm quite curious to see this dub, though I don't feel too optimistic about it. At this point, we know there's going to be a Canadian dub of this half-assed reboot. Kirby Morrow isn't reprising his role as Goku, but McNeil is coming back as Piccolo, Jeice (ugh), and Dr. Brief. According to rumor, Frieza is also going to be voiced by a man named Lee Tockar. Even though it's unconfirmed, it does give me a bit of hope. For the longest time, people in English-speaking countries thought Frieza was a woman due to the voices given to him. Even now, in the FUNi dub of Kai, he sounds pretty androgynous. What I'm worried about is that they're using a man because of the FUNi dub. That would be plain awful, because I don't want influence from the FUNi dub sneaking into the Ocean dub. It's bad enough that Jeice still has an accent in FUNi's, and Ocean seems to be keeping it (but we won't know for sure until the dub is unveiled). We don't know more than that, aside from speculation. Such as Schemmel hearing of a replacement score for the Canadian dub. I'm seriously hoping that was either him trolling us, or Ocean trolling Schemmel. Because if this turns out to be true, I can't imagine watching much of this dub. Just to hear the acting and voices of the main cast and villains. It's not like good replacement scores are impossible to do, but they almost always suck. There's rarely any silence, because they think we have ADD and can't stay focused on the show without constant noise being hurled in our face. But regardless, it's just the principle of it all. If you're not licensing the music, then it's like you're trying to "improve/change" the product. That is not your goddamn job. Your job is to faithfully adapt the material into the English-spoken language for people who don't want to watch it in Japanese. If you can't afford to license the music, why are you dubbing the fucking anime in the first place? But the fact of the matter is, this dub only exists in the first place due to greed. I'm sure if someone from Ocean talked with the members of FUNi, they could have struck a deal to air the FUNi dub of Kai in Canada and Europe. However, if Ocean dubs the anime themselves, they make a profit, while if they don't, they probably lose money. What does this have to do with the score? It's also more profitable for them to not license the Japanese music. So, we barely know anything about this dub, and already things are not looking good. I'm trying to remain hopeful, but there is very little I've heard that excites me. I might overlook a shitty dub score, though, if the script is 100% faithful and the casting isn't sloppy. The wait is killing me, just because I want to know if the dub sucks or not already. One good sign that they might be taking the dub seriously is that they're taking their time with it. That makes me happy, because FUNi's dub would have been much better if they weren't rushing it out for it to play on Nicktoons. The fact that it played on TV hurt the uncut dub, and that's very, very sad. At least Ocean isn't doing that.
It upsets me because these parodies are hugely popular, but the writing is complete and utter GARBAGE. I could shit out diarrhea scripts just like they do if I wanted to. But I have way too much self-respect to do that to myself. It pisses me off that actual DBZ voice actors from FUNimation enjoy this abridged series as well. How? HOW?!
"Maaaaaaaaaahogany!"
That's a mighty witty line, I must admit.
"Maaaaaaaaaahogany!"
That's a mighty witty line, I must admit.
How do people like TeamFourStar? I seriously want to know. There hasn't been an ounce of wit in the writing since episode two. As soon as Nappa came into the picture, the entire script shifted into trying to be random and also trying to create catchphrases. So you get lines that are horrible, yet you can tell they're trying to be funny. So instead of just being like "Meh," at the jokes, it makes you rage. This is of course assuming the viewer has a brain. Now it's barely even like a parody anymore. It's pretty much a light-hearted fandub with the occasional terrible jokes that make you question how this piece of shit is still popular when it hasn't been funny since Raditz was relevant. How do people enjoy the writing? Do people watch the episodes when they're stoned?
God dammit, VideoPad. Why are you such a pain in the ass? All this time, I've been trying to import a Detective Conan episode into you so that I can edit it for a fandub and you've been giving me a stupid error. The error message doesn't tell you jack shit. For all I knew, I could have been missing a video codec or something. But then I imported it into a different program and it told me the problem. There was an illegal character in the file name. WHY COULDN'T YOU HAVE TOLD ME THAT, VIDEOPAD?! I thought I had to download another fucking piece of editing software.
